It’s live in Queensland

The 2016 Australian Open is set to be bigger and better than last year so don't miss the opportunity to take part in the worlds richest bowls event.

With the 2016 Australian Open fast approaching, so is the closing date for entries into this year’s 14 day festival of bowls on the Gold Coast.

Participation is expected to increase on last year’s record breaking numbers after the tournaments move to the Queensland tourist destination proved very popular.

For those who are undecided about taking part in the world’s richest bowls event, here are some reasons why the Australian Open should be on your ‘To Do’ list for 2016!

• The Australian Open is open for all; no matter how experienced you are all participants start the competition in the main draw.

• By entering the Singles, Pairs and Fours you are guaranteed 3 days of bowls and a minimum of eight games of sectional play.

• The introduction of Men’s and Women’s Over 60’s Pairs will be a great inclusion to this year’s event.

• The Gold Coast is the perfect location to combine a holiday with playing in a world class bowls event; the weather, the beaches, restaurants, nightlife and four world famous theme parks for the kids; there is something for everyone on the Gold Coast.

• The prize money is now a HUGE $250,000 and will be distributed down as low as the loosing round of 128 in the men’s singles. This ensures that a greater number of participants will receive a return on their entry fee.

• The Gold Coast has an amazing array of accommodation options; with so many hotels and holiday houses available, you can pick up a bargain and still be in the heart of all the action.

• Champions are born at the Australian Open; last year’s winners Ellen Ryan and Aaron Teys have both worked their way into the Australian Jackaroos Squad since their remarkable victories in the blue ribbon singles event.

• 20 disciplines on offer in 2016 including events for juniors and bowlers with a disability.

• The player of the event will be rewarded with $1500 as determined by the person who accumulates the most national ranking points.

• Who wouldn’t want to spend two weeks enjoying the wonderful Queensland weather that is renowned to be beautiful one day, perfect the next!

• The 2016 Australian Open will feature up to 15 of the Gold Coasts best bowling clubs, all of which boast wonderful greens all year round.

• The chance to play against or spectate some of the best players in the world like Alex Marshall, Karen Murphy, Mark Casey or Lynsey Clarke gracing the greens.

• Could you be the player that causes the biggest upset of the tournament; knocking off an international superstar or qualifying for the final of the pairs or singles to be televised LIVE on Fox Sports?

The most important information you need is the tournament dates; June 11-24 and entries close on April 3
