Aussie Games Gold Medallist Advances: Monday, April 3, 2006
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Wayne Turley has made a strong start to the Australian Open bowls tournament, winning his opening match in Melbourne this afternoon (3/4). The Sydney-based bowler defeated David Sutherland of Victoria 8-6, 9-1 at the Darebin International Sports Centre. Turley will now play Dean Athanassiou in the second round tomorrow (4/4). Former English international and 2002 Commonwealth Games gold medallist David Holt was the first big name casualty at the event losing to Neville Brown of Victoria in a tie-breaker 7-5, 4-8, 2-0.
