Top seeds on track at Australian Open: Wednesday, April 5, 2006
A host of the top seeds in the women’s singles have progressed through to the fourth round at the Australian Open bowls tournament in Melbourne.
Reigning champion and No. 1 seed Roma Dunn and Maria Rigby, seeded No. 2, both survived nail biting tie-breakers to advance at the Darebin International Sports Centre today (5/4).
Third seed Brenda Thompson of Queensland departed after suffering a loss to qualifier Julie Keegan 3-8 7-2 2-1.
New Zealand’s Sharon Sims, seeded No. 7, was also knocked out after being beaten by Canberra-based Lois Waters.
Commonwealth Games singles bronze medallist Lorna Trigwell and Asia Pacific singles gold medallist Litia Tikoisuva, seeded eighth and ninth respectively, will clash at 1.00pm today (5/5).
Victorian Mary Anne Canute also booked her fourth round encounter against Commonwealth Games gold medallist Karen Murphy.
