Media release: 11th January 2008 QUEENSLANDERS ON MAT FOR STATE FINALS The race to become Queensland's representative at the AERF mixed pairs challenge in Melbourne will be decided within the next 48 hours. During next month's ABN AMRO Australia Open, which will once again be staged at the Darebin International Sports Centre, the AERF mixed pairs will be contested for a fourth occasion, with $60,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. With more than 5000 club players vying for the prestigious title, the qualifying stages are heating up, with the sunshine state holding its finals at Yeronga Bowling club on Sunday. Gaining a berth in the national final, however, will be far from easy with 2005 winners Ken Luck and Marilyn Peddle having progressed through the preliminary rounds, but not with each other. Peddle, a former Australian representative, moved clubs last season from Bribie Island to Beachmere and will partner Rodney Sambrook, while Luck will be partnered by Mary Geddes on the weekend. The Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation is an independent body, acting for both community and government, to fund groups in social, educational, research and health related activities. The AER Foundation seeks to increase community understanding of the extent and nature of alcohol related harm and promote widespread support for a range of strategies to reduce such harm.
