Entries & Qualifiers |
How to qualify for the Australian Open: Qualifying for the Australian Open 2009 will be state based. This concept was based on the following principles:
The following events have been sanctioned as qualifiers for the 2009 Australian Open:
Players from any state are able to enter any of the qualifying events around the country. Should they not qualify for the AO at one event they can enter the next event on the calendar should time permit with entry rules. Players will be required to pay an AO entry in addition to any event entry. For every additional attempt at qualifying, the player/team will be required to pay another AO entry fee. The total number of entries for the 2009 Australian Open will be as follows:
Direct Entries Only the following players will receive direct entries into the Australian Open:
BA will reserve the following wild card places for international guests and other players that will assist with the marketing of the event to Australian players and the world to drive the event to be one of the best in the world. Unlike previous AO's, Australian team members, top ranked 25 singles players and state champions will not be given direct entry. All players will be required to enter one of the qualification events to gain entry into the AO. Note: As the Australian Team travels to all Grand Prix events, there would be a limit of 5 positions for singles and 3 positions for pairs/triples, per gender, to be awarded to Australian squad members so that the early events are not penalised by the number of qualifying positions awarded to squad members. Allocation of qualifying position to State Events: The number of qualifying positions from each qualifying event will be determined by the number of registered members within each state. The final numbers for the 2009 Australian Open qualifying allocation are:
Qualifying positions: Qualifying positions will be determined by the final ranking positions at the conclusion of each qualifying event. However, players must have entered the event as an AO qualifier prior to the start of any event with entry fees paid in full. This cannot be changed based on performance during or at the conclusion of the event. In the event of tied position in the ranking, these will be split by: Games won then sets won then shots won. Replacement Players: Pairs - both players from the team must remain together for the Australian Open. Replacements will not be allowed. Triples - teams must consist of at least two of the team members that competed at the qualifier. Bowls Australia must be notified of the reason for the replacement and the name of the new player. Bowls Australia reserves the right to reject the replacement player.Entry Fees: Each player/team will be required to pay an AO entry fee in addition to any event entry fee. These fees for the 2009 event will be:
