Bowls Australia’s Silver Tier program is an important component of the national elite pathway.
Silver Tier nationally recognises athletes for their talent, commitment and drive to succeed within the sport. Selection in this program is based on an athlete displaying talent which is outstanding, coachable and has the ability go on and represent Australia at international level.
The program’s primary objective is to prepare elite athletes for the national squad and ultimately to compete in international competitions such as the Commonwealth Games, World Championships and Asia Pacific Championships.
Silver Tier draws on the expertise of our national high performance program to assist athletes to reach their full potential and achieve their goals.
Athletes in the Silver Tier program work with our elite high performance coaches and sports science staff to work on their specific training and competition programs with the aim to fast-track their continued improvement.
While in the Silver Tier program, athletes are required to regularly work on the key components that go into the makeup of an elite athlete such as your skills, fitness, work ethic and commitment to the benchmark standards set by the program.
Results in national, state, district and club level events are also closely monitored by the program coaches, with feedback provided to athletes on a regular basis.
Athletes admitted to the Silver Tier program are selected by the national selection panel on the basis of their performances over a year. The program is managed by Bowls Australia Silver Tier coach, Faye Luke, who works in conjunction with National Coach, Rex Johnston.
