BA has completed its submission concerning the Laws of the Sport of Bowls...

Bowls Australia has completed its submission to the game’s governing body concerning the Laws of the Sport of Bowls – Crystal Mark Edition.

Earlier this year, World Bowls requested its members review the sport’s current laws, with national bodies invited to submit any proposed amendments.

As a result, Bowls Australia (BA) engaged in considerable time and effort to ensure its submission was of benefit to all Australian bowlers, and indeed, all bowlers from across the globe, as was the edict of the review.

During a thorough consultation period, BA canvassed the opinions of all registered members across Australia, with the five month process commencing from the bottom up engaging clubs, districts, zones, groups, state and territory associations and the National Officiating Committee (NOC).

With many well constructed proposals submitted, BA gave preference to those laws which were raised by the majority of STAs, as well as minor issues that were debated by the NOC before being included where appropriate.

Moving forward, the timeline concerning any proposed amendments is:

  • December 31, 2009- World Bowls Laws Committee (LC) to review the submissions received from member national authorities (MNAs) and to issue a revised version of the proposed changes for comment.
  • February 28, 2010- Closing date for MNAs to submit their comments on the revised version of the proposed changes.
  • April 30, 2010- LC to review the comments received from MNAs, incorporating any changed laws into the Crystal Mark Edition before submitting it to Plain English Campaign for editing in line with Crystal Mark conditions.
  • June 11, 2010- World Bowls to issue the revised edition to MNAs for consideration and approval at the biennial council meeting to be staged in Delhi during October 2010.
